Artist
Having left Dutch P-funk outfit Gotcha! in 1995 due to tension and conflict, founding Gotcha! member, guitarist and singer Ro Krom (1969, a.k.a. Robadope Ro) started a new band called Ro & Paradise Funk, a more soulful and melodic funk band featuring Manuel Hugas (bass), Martijn Bosman (drums) and Nico Brandsen (keyboards). Ro & Paradise Funk (1995-1998) released two full-length albums: the self-titled Ro & Paradise Funk (1996) and Baby (1997). Both albums were well-received by the Dutch music press. The 1997 single, 'Daydreaming', was a minor radio hit in The Netherlands, but sales were disappointing. After the release of Baby and a string of good reviews, Krom was sidelined by a herniated disc, an injury that seriously undermined the band's touring ambitions and eventually led to the group's demise in 1998. Ro Krom moved on to other musical projects, wrote major Dutch hit singles for the Dutch novelty, kid-friendly 'gabber' techno act Hakkûhbar and, in 2002, founded a new band, the short-lived OLaBOLA. Today he is active as a DJ, using his old Gotcha! moniker as his DJ name: DJ Robadope, the "multi-coloured groovemaster" who spins everything from soul, disco and breaks to Northern Soul, reggae and ska.
