Rites of the Youth was formed in the beginning of the year 2004. At first the band’s sound was substantially lighter: songs were simpler - more traditional metal pieces. After getting the line-up complete we immediately recorded a demo consisting of five songs. This first demo was downloadable for a short period of time. The ambition for songwriting and playing tighter as a band grew and the material started to develop in to a heavier, aggressive and considerably more technical direction. The earlier songs got run over by the new heavier material and the need to develop as a band and as song writers grew even stronger. A song called “First Love, First Scar” was the one to set a new musical direction for the band. We recorded the song for internet distribution and shot a video for it - which was also our debut music video. After “First Love, First Scar” new songs were written and soon we started to record new material. In the summer 2006 Half Flame Theory-EP was released with a limited edition of 200 pcs. It was very quickly sold out so we decided to release it on our website as well, and to this date it can still be found there. Since then our goal has been to challenge ourselves as musicians and as composers – We want to evolve and take our music to the next level still maintaining the love and passion for playing and live performing.
