Presently, there are several artists that use this moniker. 1. Rising Sun is the production alias of Steffen Laschinski, a producer and multi-label curator from Berlin. His labels Styrax, Millions of Moments, and Kristofferson Kristofferson have attained cult status amongst DJs and record collectors alike. With releases from Larry Heard, Ron Trent, Shed, Baby Ford, and Herbert, the labels have become a staple in sets from distinguished international DJs and are often resold at exorbitant prices online. Laschinski has also become an institution as a DJ and producer with his project Rising Sun, achieving recognition for the unique emotional depth to his style, and dubbed by music magazine Das Filter as the “godfather of outsider house.” As a DJ, Rising Sun stands for traditional, historically aware house and techno in the vein of Basic Channel, Detroit, and deep house, but still maintains a keen ear for forward-thinking sounds. 2. Ken Ishii (ケンイシイ Ken Ishii) is a successful techno DJ and producer from Tokyo. He has released work under his own name as well as under the pseudonyms: FLR, Flare, UTU, Yoga, and Rising Sun. Rising Sun is Ishii's more deep house alternative. Using highly synthesized bass lines and Pads, he creates a very unique sound.
