One of the most significant struggles that can determine the success of a band is identifying a unique and comfortable sound that appeals to both the band as well as a number of audiences. Rising City States is a band that has experienced everything from multiple line up changes, to shifts in musical direction that have defined who they are today. Back in 2008, vocalist Mike Vieira, drummer Joel Desroches, guitarists Andrew Hillier and Jon Gervan were in the process of rebuilding a project, formally known as Letting Go of Yesterday. However, through many months of writing new material the band began to develop a sound that would provide the foundation for their debut album: Where Moths and Rust Destroy. With new material and a drive to get back on their feet, the band was only missing one thing: a bassist. After several auditions the band found Nick Turenne, who they quickly identified to be the missing piece. With a member whose writing brought a new perspective to the sound, the band was ready to enter the studio where they would work tirelessly for months on their debut album, which is now available on iTunes.
