Rick started playing the guitar aged 10. The guitarplaying of Mark Knopfler, Chris Rea, Toto's Steve Lukather and even some Deep Purple appealed to him. After studying a book explaining basic techniques and notation he discovered the possibilities of playing by ear and started imitating Mark Knopfler in the first place. Later on he discovered music of Jan Akkerman, Gary Moore, Joe Satriani and Andres Segovia. He devoted all of his spare time playing and listening to music. On his last project he states: "Last summer I started planning for a new fusion project. I grew up listening to pop and rock oriented music as a teenager. Studying music at conservatory also meant studying traditional jazz and improvisation. I regard jazz as an attitude rather than a style. So combining all the pop, rock, fusion, jazz and blues elements I listened to for me is closest to jazz possible. For this I composed 5 pieces. For this project I teamed up with Berthil Busstra on keys. The recording and mixing was done by Max Bolleman. Their huge experience made this recording a dream come true. The music on this EP was written during the last couple of years. I've put some examples on this myspace. All music has been played live in the studio in order to keep the music fresh. No overdubbing and only a small use of edi
