Artist
Richard Cornell is a U.S. composer of orchestral and chamber music. Cornell studied at the Eastman School, New England Conservatory, and the Longy School of Music. He has held faculty positions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Longy, the Berkshire Music Center, and is currently on the faculty of Boston University. He has been commissioned to write music for many ensembles, large and small, including Boston Musica Viva, Dinosaur Annex, Pro Arte Orchestra, Alea III, Muir Quartet, Collage New Music, Triple Helix, the Harvard Musical Association, and the International Trumpet Guild. In 1981, Cornell joined the legendary Composers In Red Sneakers, taking part in all their concerts and recording projects until 1987. As Composer-in-Residence of the New England Philharmonic he composed seven orchestral works. Cornell’s sound designs in collaboration with visual and video artists have been recently presented at the Ruschman Gallery (Indianapolis), the Hafnarborg Museum (Reykyavik), and ProyectoACE (Buenos Aires).
