Artist
Riad Awwad, born in Salfit, Palestine, was a prominent figure in Palestinian music and culture. He graduated from the Arab College in Jerusalem in 1947, and after a career as an electrical engineer specializing in musical equipment, he found his true calling in music. His musical journey began shortly after the First Intifada erupted in December 1987, with his music reflecting the struggles and emotions of the Palestinian people during this turbulent time. He collaborated with other Palestinian artists, including the renowned poet Mahmoud Darwish, creating works that blended poetry and music, giving voice to the Palestinian experience. Tragically, Awwad was killed in a car accident in 2005, but his legacy continues through his music, which has gained international recognition, helping to bring Palestinian culture and its challenges to a wider audience.
