Rhett's music career began when he was only 4 years old. His sister was taking piano lessons at the time, and Rhett's father found him on the piano bench playing his sister's pieces by ear, and immediately had him enrolled in Suzuki violin lessons from Virginia Huckton. The suzuki lessons lasted about two years, until Rhett began to get bored and began taking fiddle lessons from Ricky Boen. Rhett continued to take fiddle lessons until Ricky moved to Branson, Missouri in 2006. By this time Rhett had already been playing the tenor saxophone for almost 7 years, winning 1st in every all-region and area band competition he competed in. In high school, he was awarded a scholarship for being selected for the all-state band all four years in a row, although he had already begun to practice jazz much more than the school's classical music. It was also at Greenwood High that he was voted 'Most Talented' and 'Best Dressed', which is still apparent in his performances today. When Rhett was a senior, he began performing with the band Simplearth, shortly before performing at Rock The Desert the summer of 2007, opening for bands like Family Force 5 and Barlow Girl. After high school, Rhett attended West Texas A&M University for 3 semesters, majoring in saxophone performance under Don LeFevre. After the fall of 2008, Rhett withdrew from WTAMU and auditioned for the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he studied under violinists Christian Howes and Rob Thomas. The summer of 2008, d
