Donatella Rettore, known professionally as Rettore (Castelfranco Veneto, born 8 July 1955) is an Italian singer and songwriter. After moving to Rome, during the year 1974, she had her debut at the "Festival di Sanremo", the national festival of Italian music. In 1976 she released her first success, the single "Lailolà" that sold well in Italy and countries abroad (especially Switzerland and Germany). The year after she went back to the "Festival di Sanremo", but unlike her first visit, this appearance brought no glory and her first two albums did not get a good response. In 1978, Donatella Rettore decided to turn her name simply into her surname, and her looks change, as well as the style of her music, now closer to rock. The year after she reached a great popularity with the album "Brivido divino", that included one of her greatest success, the song "Splendido splendente", which is actually considered one of the greatest hits of Italian music. In 1980 she released another successful single, "Kobra", which placed second in another famous Italian competition, "Festivalbar" (which features international artists). The year after, her new single "Donatella" hit the dancefloors and granted her the victory of "Festivalbar". These following years are the top of Rettore's career: sir Elton John wrote three songs for her ("Remember", "This Time", Sweetheart on Parade"), and played a part in the movie "Cicciabomba" that features Anita Ekberg.
