Artist
Reto Bieri has been called "one of the most promising clarinettists of his generation". Bieri was born in Zug, Switzerland and grew up under the influence of Swiss folk music. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Basle and then at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Following his success in 2001 at the "Tribune International des Jeunes Interprètes" he performs regularly as clarinet soloist and chamber musician at international festivals and in important musical centres such as New York, London, Vienna, Moscow, Salzburg, Montreal, Hamburg and Zürich. He works together with established musicians, well-known string quartets and a number of orchestras. Besides the standard repertoire for his own instrument, he is especially interested in contemporary music. In addition to his intensive teaching programme, the cooperation with many contemporary composers forms an important part of his work. He lives with his wife, a violinist, in a farmhouse near Berne, Switzerland.
