Artist
There are two artists that share this moniker. The first was formed in 2005; the second is a band from Cedar Falls, Iowa which formed in 2011. Neither project is related to the other. 1 of 2) Remiss is a lo-fi/anti-folk/outsider musicker who doesn't know or understand the laws/rules/realms of lyricism, harmony, melody, tonality, or much else about music. He started recording off-the-tongue songs in his parents' basement in the winter of 2005 as a means of anti-suicide. To quote from his First Draft Records website, he says, "I sang these songs for myself and people who think (and feel and worry) like me. If you don't like them, I don't really need to hear about it. They probably weren't written for you. But thanks for listening." Remiss was inspired to start singing for his sanity β despite modern status quos of production-room perfectionism β by the loving and lovely transparencies of such fine people-musicians as Daniel Johnston, Kimya Dawson, Woody Guthrie, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Ani DiFranco, Phosphorescent, Damien Jurado, and Jolie Holland. He allegedly records his songs only once, typically on the fly and without practising, writing or similar such pre-planning or self-censorship. Of the ninety songs and six records so far, he claims to have only written or sung beforehand less than ten of those. He occasionally sings other people's songs, as well as his own poems. He doesn't sing in public, tour, or sell any of his musik. He lives alone on the dusty, rolling outski
