Artist
Orville Rhodes, known as Red Rhodes or O. J. Rhodes (born in Alton, Illinois on December 30, 1930), was an American steel guitarist. His mother taught him to play the dobro at the age of five, but at the age of fifteen he changed to the pedal steel guitar. He moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s, and became an in-demand session musician. Rhodes played pedal steel on many influential country rock albums, but is most often remembered for his work with former Monkees member Michael Nesmith, on his first solo albums in the early 1970s. He is also credited by name on The Ventures official website as being responsible for many of the "other-worldly" effects he created with pedal steel for their futuristic album "The Ventures in Space" released in 1964.
