Red Joy Reid was perhaps the most clever invention in electronic music without actually being a synthesizer or sampler. In 1999 and 2000, the music of Red Joy Reid took the IDM and Electronic charts on the former mp3.com by storm, leading to the sale of a plethora of copies of her music on Audiogalaxy and mp3.com, most notably the "It's Now Safe To Turn Off The Computer" and "Future Love" CD's. With what seemed like a huge potential to become a major force in electronic music, she slipped away almost as quickly as she arrived, complete with a cryptic note on her Audiogalaxy page that appeared just before September 11, 2001. Did she die of a drug overdose? Was she in the World Trade Center? No one knew anything except that she was gone. Fast forward to 2004. Electronic musician Matthew Tuozzo, known better as Cerebral, posts a blog entry on his website in response to a LiveJournal query on the whereabouts of Red Joy Reid. It turns out that Red Joy Reid was nothing more than his own creation in an attempt to create a thinking man's pop icon -- and to get more exposure to his music. Pictures of Red Joy Reid are actually a morph of Jodie Foster and Winona Ryder. In fact, the name "Red Joy Reid" is an anagram for "Jodie Ryder". Cerebral admits that he used what he considered to be some of his more subpar music under the Red Joy Reid moniker. Those who enjoy this music would more than likely also enjoy Cerebral's, as that of his band Team Techno. User-contributed text is availab
