The band interacts with and feeds off its audience, but its final musical delivery is executed with precision … the result of thousands of practice hours and a collective, obsessive attention to detail. The Rats’ edgy, catchy tunes deliver succinct, four-part harmony. Lead singer Uni Pereira’s lyrics, in his alternately angry and coy voice, spiral around guitarist McCabe’s melodies and quick fingerwork. Drummer Tige Bucchino lays the foundation with a steady bombardment of beats while bass player Doc Singles offers his seething bass lines and high harmonies to the mix. The elements align to create a hard rock counterpoint to the hooky pop melodies. The Nashville-based group’s new CD, “The Year of the Rat” on Chauffeur Records, includes 11 songs produced by McCabe, mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Kevin Beamish (Elton John, Henry Rollins), and mastered by Randy LeRoy (Relient K). It includes a special guest appearance on keys by session ace Tim Akers (Kid Rock, Jewel). Chauffeur, the brain child of Uni and McCabe, enters this second project in a joint venture with publishing and licensing company Ash Street Music.
