Artist
Born in Hong Kong and brought up in Somerset, John Pennells aka Re:criminate has quickly established himself as a fresh face in Drum and Bass. After getting into dnb in 1994 when a friend hooked him onto a tape of a London pirate radio station, he mastered the skills of Djing and played his first set in 1999. Influenced by the likes of Adam F, Roni Size & the full cycle crew, Re:criminate decided to embark on a Logic tutorial with Kubiks (Rubik Records) in 2007 and soon grasped the skills to produce his own material. How would you describe your style? “Iʼm not really sure I have a style, I make what I like to hear, I can get inspiration from a sample, T.V or another tune I hear, then get into the creative zone and make what I see and hear in my mind.” With now a handful of releases under his belt and huge support from the likes of London Elektricity (Hospital) & Crissy Criss (Radio 1), There is no doubt that this man will be a name to look out for in the coming year.
