Ravenna Escaleira was born in Porto, Portugal on the 25th of November, 1992 to Brazilian immigrant parents. She studied piano and classical music at the Music School Silva Monteiro from the age of five, and began writing her first poems at the age of nine. At fifteen, she attended Artistic School Soares dos Reis, and left the following year to live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she continued to maintain a close relationship to the local art scene. Ravenna returned to Portugal for a short period, until she left to travel through Europe again. Her first inspirations are mainly inspired by the punk movement and DIY scene. In 2015, having returned to Porto, she became a single mother, and continued to work independently, mainly on painting and poetry. In 2017, she started her first music project, “RVN”, with an electronic and experimental approach, diversifying between instruments, techniques and genres but always maintaining free improvisation as a core. She performed regularly in Porto and Lisbon and released six albums. Having closed this first project Ravenna traveled to Bologna, Italy, with an alto saxophone, performing free improvisation on the streets and exploring the limits of personal experience, as well as the acoustics of different cities. Her music is an integration and reflex of everything heard, observed and experienced within a language that aims to express a personal testimonial in a counter reflection on memory.
