Rare (formerly "Rareware") is a UK-based video game development company. It was founded in 1982 by brothers Tim and Chris Stamper. Rare was a second-party developer for the Nintendo hardware platforms for over a decade, but in 2002 was acquired by Microsoft. The company is most well known for the production of video games that fans exclaim are "half a generation ahead of the competition" in graphics, sound, and technical aspects. No stranger to dazzling graphics, lovable characters, innovative gameplay, and beautiful musical scores, Rare has delivered to gamers on many consoles throughout its existence.
