Raphaëlla SMITS was the first woman ever to win the Certamen International de Guitarra Francesco Tarrega (Benicasim, Spain). This prize crowned the first ten years of the career of this belgian guitarist. She graduated in Antwerp and Brussels, studied with José Tomas at the Catedra Andrès Segovia and started to give her first recitals. She gives courses at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, Belgium.
