His leadership of prestigious ensembles from Berlin to Vienna positioned him as a custodian of the symphonic repertoire during a transformative period. What distinguishes his work is neither flashy virtuosity nor revisionist interpretation, but rather a thoughtful fidelity to compositional architecture paired with an ear attuned to orchestral color and balance.
