Raised on Chicago's South-Side, R.J. of MC-duo R.J. & Technique, didn't always share the same affection for creating music that he does today. It wasn't until R.J. came into possession of an old tape recorder, and began recording the freestyle sessions he was often pressured to participate in with his childhood friends, that the young MC began to realize his talents. R.J. met his future band-mate, Technique, in a sophomore honors math class where Tech, a spoken word artist at heart, spotted R.J. writing lyrics in class rather than taking notes. The two quickly realized they shared a growing passion for music, lyricism and respect for the art of emceeing; a bond was soon formed and the two agreed to start making music together. Over the years, both artists have honed their abilities and as a group, developed a unique and eclectic sound. To achieve this, the group uses powerful messages, raw storytelling abilities and thought-provoking lyricism while never sacrificing their sense of humor or ability to rock a party. Coming off 2010's well received Crash Sanna, the Windy City duo's most recent full-length project, Gosu, showcases the group's ability to evolve their sound while still maintaining a sonically cohesive album.
