Since the formation of the Quadriga Consort in 2000, the Austrian ensemble under the direction of the harpsichordist Nikolaus Newerkla has made a name for itself beyond the borders of Austria, playing early music, which defies being pigeonholed as either "classical" or "pop". With its first programme, Ground – released on CD (2003) with Label Harp, Berlin – the Quadriga Consort already delighted its audiences with uncompromising interpretations and unsuspected freshness, beyond any categorization. Particularly since collaborating with South African-born singer Elisabeth Kaplan on Songs & Tunes from the Isles (CD As I Walked Forth released 2005 on the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation’s label ORF Edition Alte Musik), the Quadriga Consort has had numerous appearances at renowned festivals in Austria and abroad, such as the Early Music Festivals in Leicester (UK) and Indianapolis (USA).
