Pyogenesis is a German band from Stuttgart, formed in 1991. The band has undergone several stylistic changes over the course of its career, evolving from early death metal and doom metal to gothic metal, and later incorporating alternative rock, alternative metal, and pop-punk elements before returning to a heavier sound in later years. The band has been described as an early contributor to the development of gothic metal. Pyogenesis emerged from the local band Immortal Hate and was founded by vocalist and guitarist Flo V. Schwarz in 1991. The members met at the Rockfabrik club near Stuttgart, which served as a hub for the regional rock and metal scene. The band initially operated within the underground, releasing early material such as the single "Rise of the Unholy" and "Sacrificious Profanity" in limited quantities through international independent labels. In 1992, the band recorded and released the mini album "Ignis Creatio" through Osmose Productions. The release combined elements of extreme metal with both clean and guttural vocals. In 1993, Pyogenesis recorded "Sweet X-Rated Nothings" and subsequently signed with Nuclear Blast. The first release under the label was the EP "Waves of Erotasia" in 1994, followed by the full-length version of "Sweet X-Rated Nothings" later that year.
