"Professor Griff" is an American rapper and spoken word artist., formerly a member of the hip hop group Public Enemy , acting as its Minister of Information and head of the Security of the First World, a security team that protected and performed with Public Enemy in the late 1980s. As a result of intense pressure from White media and recording executives at Def Jam, Public Enemy released Griff from the group. While the group had gained notoriety for its Pro-Black message if found Griff to be a liability as its mainstream popularity grew - a position that mean little to nothing to Griff if it meant the group had to water down its message or purpose. When Griff delivered a series of interviews, on behalf of Public Enemy, delivering what many considered a message unfairly critical of the politics and social motivations of Whites, and in particular, Jewish people, - and more importantly off-putting to young White consumers that were beginning to buy Rap music, Chuck D "fired" Professor Griff. Professor Griff was effectively removed for doing his job - delivering a fiery message that inspired Black youth to view the world around them more critically. Griff reemerged with a new group the Last Asiatic Disciples. This group began where Public Enemy left off, focusing more intently on Afrocentricity, political activism and Islamic themes.
