Santi Ibarretxe was born 1964 in Bilbao. He studies piano and classic flute, but he’s soon kidnapped by the spirit of jazz and improvised music. After winning several jazz contests in Spain, he moves to Copenhagen in 1989, where for 9 years he grows as a performer and versatile musician. In 1998, back in Spain, he meets up again pianist friend Fran Rubio, and they create the funky surrelistic group Khatorno, and its reduced version Duo a el niño. In this context, the “Primital concept” (a sort of funny dadaist funky musical surrealism) begins to take shape. He’s the composer of five motion pictures soundtracks, and of a number jingles for commercials. He’s also a member of “Bizarre” Trio, with Tomás Merlo and Borja Barrueta.
