Pretty Mary Sunshine was formed in Seattle in March of 1993. PMS began when Patrice Tullai answered an add that Kurt Elzner put in the Rocket for a smooth sounding vocalist. Kurt was working and living at the infamous "electric eel" at the time (the electric eel was an underground recording studio that recorded hundreds of bands). Kurt was fond of the drumming of Pam Barger (he called her Mo Tucker), and Patrice loved the worked of bassist Joe Skyward. Jerry O'Neal was invited to play lead guitar and several instruments from India . The band put together an eight track demo tape in just a few hours. The group had never gotten together before with the exception of Patrice and Kurt. Kurt literally had to shout out the chords to Joe. Patrice and Kurt took off in a Dodge Dart heading to Los Angeles to get a record deal. Several clonipin and days later cassettes tapes were left on the coffee table of a pot dealer in LA. Within a week two record companies were calling and a show was set up at the "offramp" so A&M could see the band. Sadly PMS was booked with punk bands and the audience was unreceptive. It was an awful performance, Patrice kept her back to the audience, and pretty much the band figured it was over. PMS was invited to do a second show at a warehouse party and it was video taped. The tape was sent to Jeff Suey the A&M a&r guy. Shortly after, a contract was signed and off the band went to Oklahoma to record a full length album with Keith Cleversly of the
