Artist
Combining her classical training with a love of Nina, Ella and all things jazz and Motown, Dorset born Poppy Andrews is about to crash onto the UK music scene. The stunning singer, who just turned 20 this year, already has a wealth of live experience behind her, including a regular appearance at a bar in Antigua where she teams up with a much revered local backing group. Throughout all the performing, she spends every spare minute writing songs, by herself - check out the beautiful Floating - and with some highly regarded and very successful partners. Its this songwriting quality that sets Poppy aside from the myriad of female singers out there in the marketplace - 'Words, rather than the music, made me want to write. I've always found a strong connection between what the lyrics were saying and the stories they tried to tell, rather than the basic melody. I feel like you can write an excellent melody, but if your lyrics suck, you havent quite finished the job. That's why more underground artists have influenced me instead of the commercial ones...their songwriting means something to them. I never saw myself as a songwriter originally. I thought I was just a girl who could sing... and that was it.' User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
