Listening to Poplar Street really brings to one's attention that the traditional late 20th century genre classification structure simply doesn't have the language to describe the music emerging within the early 21st century. How one is inclined to approach (and further define) Poplar Street's music is to label it as what it is not: namely, post-this or post-that. Poplar Street is the name given to the totality of of sounds and movement, sometimes captured in audio, video, picture, by four friends in Halifax, NS. They are not four guys trying to make their instruments sound different (or like anything in particular). It is what it is. It all started in 2010. They've released two EPs ('Leave It All Behind' and 'Survive' (2011)) and are releasing an album in the Fall of 2012. They like all kinds of music, especially that which they listen to more than once. Names worth mentioning are Wintersleep, Pink Floyd, Talk Talk, Alexisonfire, Hey Rosetta!, Cloud Nothings, Radiohead, Joy Division. Electro-Harmonix and Mood-Swings are important as well.
