Pleasureland are singer/songwriter Cate Turner and pianist Willem Keune. Formed in Manchester late 2008, Pleasureland is a truly international band with a dubbed out, sultry, jazz funk sound. Having met on a sailing boat in Helsinki whilst celebrating the wedding of mutual friends, a discussion about music (and the realisation that both musicians lived in Manchester) was followed by a few jam sessions and Pleasureland was born. Since then, Pleasureland have been busy in the studio refining their sound, recording and preparing their live set. Every Pleasureland release comes in 2 versions; The Pleasureland version is an exciting fusion of funk-fuelled pop, plugged in and wired up and bursting with energy. The 'Pleasurelounge' version is stripped back, dubbed out piano & vocals, evoking smokey jazz clubs, piano bars and dusky summer evenings.
