"As unpredictable as the path of a thunderstorm over the Mountains of Madness, the music of Pineal Ventana, roars out of that hostile alternate dimension which H.P. Lovecraft described as 'the spaces between.'" - Creative Loafing Atlanta,Georgia-based unit formed in 1993 by Mitchell Foy and Clara Clamp following the demise of Foy's King-Kill/33. Kim Chee was shortly recruited on guitar, joined by Travis Kotler also on guitar, and Brian Cook on bass. This line-up produced the debut self-released 7" 'Stagnancy Is Revolting' circa '94. The record marked, among other things, the first use of Clamp's drawings, which would be featured in much of the band's output. Shane Pringle (ex-Go Devils) joined on sax and the six-piece released the "Philosopher's Stone" 7" (packaging for this included a poster with a photo from an infamous gig) and their debut CD 'Living Soil' on the local Half Baked label, circa '95. "Indica" and "Mark of Zero" from the disc became live regulars. An appearance at the '96 SXSW highlighted a year which ended with the exit of Kotler who was quickly replaced by Jason LaFarge. 1997 saw the permanent installment of John Whitaker on bass, and the recording and release of the landmark 'Breathe As You Might' CD. A massive jump in quality and complexity of songs, musicianship, and recording quality can be heard on this disc compared to the previous.
