Pietro Morandi (Thursday, April 15, 1745 Bologna - Friday, December 8, 1815 Senigallia) was an Italian composer. Pietro Morandi, composer, organist, choirmaster in Pergola and Senigallia, is remembered among the principal musicians of the 18th century in the Marche region; he was the father of Giovanni Morandi, also a composer, excellent organist and appreciated singing teacher. Pietro Morandi was born in Bologna where he studied under the guidance of Father Martini; at a very young he began to write music and in 1763 he joined the Philharmonic Academy as a composer. In June 1764 he assumed the post of chapel master of the cathedral of Pergola and in 1778 at the cathedral of Senigallia; in 1811 he left every position to his son di lui Giovanni and retired. His activity is documented by a few direct sources; what is known today is derived mainly from the examination of the correspondence held with Father Martini. Some printed librettos and other secondary sources document his compositions in the genres of opera seria, comic interludes and cantata. Of great importance, being a form not practiced in Italy, is the discovery in 1990 by Maestro Marco Mencoboni of 12 organ concertos. Many of Pietro Morandi's compositions have been lost; about 60 works remain preserved in Italian and foreign libraries. Pietro Morandi is also remembered as an excellent singing and composition teacher. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms m
