Piet Ketting ( Haarlem , November 29 1904 - Rotterdam , May 25 1984 ) was a Dutch composer , pianist , conductor and music critic . He was the father of Otto Ketting . Piet Ketting studied composition with William Piper . From 1930 to 1956 he was head teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatory for choral conducting and composition. During the same period he formed a trio with Johan Feltkamp and Jaap Stotijn . In addition, he conducted the Rotterdam Chamber Choir and the Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra . In the period from 1946 to 1949 he was director of the Amsterdam Music Lyceum . As a pianist he was a member of the trio Piet Ketting - Johan Feltkamp ( flute ) - Jaap Stotijn ( oboe ). This trio also performed abroad. Previously, he wrote in his 1936 Sonata for flute, oboe and piano. His earliest compositions were indebted to Claude Debussy and Late Romanticism.
