Pierre Farago

Pierre Farago was born in 1969 in Caen. After joint studies in organ, piano and harpsichord, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he obtained five first prizes in organ, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and composition. A finalist in several international competitions, he is the winner of the Edmund Pendleton Prize (organ performance). In addition to his career as an organist in Europe, Pierre Farago developed an important activity as a composer. He received several commissions, notably from Radio-France, the Ars Musica Festival in Brussels, the Radovljica Festival in Slovenia or the Orgelpark in Amsterdam for symphonic, chamber and organ works. He premiered his organ piece Nächtlich geschürzt at France-Musique in January 2005. Finalist in 1997 of the Queen Elisabeth International Composition Competition of Belgium (Violin Concerto), distinguished shortly after by the Pierre Cardin Composition Prize, then by the Georges Wildenstein Prize awarded by the Academy of Fine Arts, Pierre Farago spent two years from 1997 to 1999 as a resident in the composition section of the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid.
