There is more than one artist with this name: 1) A 60's Spanish band with singer Jeanette. 2) A Brazilian indie band. 2) Defining the music of PicNic is definitely not an easy task, but one can easily recognize the paradoxism, or, if one prefers, a certain kind of bi-polarity that lies in their songs: tenderness x energy, slow motion x full throttle, sweetness x power, violins x storming guitars; all this...feelings walk together since the first day. The fresh and new brazilian music, without preconceived paths to follow nor false ideals to be plannedeither; that´s PicNic, and vice-versa. Formed in 2001, the band gathers the rough touch of four boys (Paulinho- guitars; Miguel- guitars; Chokito bass guitar; Davi- drums) with the delicacy of their female singer, Guidi, who also plays the guitar and is the responsable for all the lyrics. Their first demo was released in 2003, and is unashamedly provincial and nostalgic. Eight tracks, low-fi, basic overdubs. Nonetheless, everything is there. "Talvez" (Maybe) opens with clean guitars, and invites ythe listener to a trip - or a picnic - in a bright sunny day, while "Ano Novo" ( New Year´s Day) and "Aqui" (Here) reminds:- that´s a rock band, do not be fooled! "Mexicana" (Mexican Song) is a nice chance to hear the band´s original drummer Victor screaming like a freak and developing a forful drum roll that still nowadays evokes comparisons with one the band influences,the Pixies.
