Artist
Philip Kroonenberg (born 1952 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands) is a Dutch singer, songwriter, guitarist and psychotherapist based in Scheveningen, the coastal district of The Hague, The Netherlands. Kroonenberg started to play the guitar at age 8 and studied the LPs his father had brought from the United States in 1956: folk and blues records by people such as Big Bill Broonzy, Leadbelly, Lightning Hopkins and Pete Seeger. His father also loved flamenco and French chanson. A mixture of all this would, many years later, become Philip's personal style as a singer-songwriter. He is also influenced by Tony Joe White, Ry Cooder, J.J. Cale and Dr. John, to name but a few. He started writing his own songs in 1977 and never stopped. His first album, Natural Causes, came out in 1995. Many more would follow, both solo and in credited collaboration. Kroonenberg also released two albums of children's songs, both in 2016. Distribution and promotion of his music improved when he signed to the esteemed indie label Excelsior Recordings in 2019, which made him altogether more 'visible' to the public.
