Peter Lehel (* September 13, 1965 in Karlsruhe) is a German jazz musician (tenor saxophone, clarinet, flute) and composer. Lehel began playing the saxophone at the age of twelve. Between 1988 and 1996 he studied jazz and popular music at the music academies in Stuttgart and Budapest. He leads his own formations such as the Peter Lehel Quartet and since 1993 has been a member of the Pipes & Phones groups with the Stuttgart organist and composer Peter Schindler and the popular South Korean band SaltaCello. In 1996 he performed in the Jazz Meets Classics project with Dino Saluzzi. With the Hoppel Hoppel Rhythm Club, Lehel is committed to teaching jazz to children. As a composer he dedicates himself among other things to the integration of jazz soloists into the classical chamber orchestra and string orchestra. He works as a composer and arranger for the clarinetists Sabine Meyer, Wolfgang Meyer, Paquito D'Rivera and Barbara Dennerlein. In 2011 he initiated the Jazz Ensemble Baden-Württemberg. Lehel is co-owner of the independent record label finetone music. Since 2004 he has been a lecturer for jazz / harmony / improvisation and big band at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe.[2] In 2014 he took over the artistic direction of the newly founded jazz junior band of the Landesmusikrat Baden-Württemberg.
