Artist
Percy Strother was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1946 and started singing at the age of nine. Al¬ready during the work in the fields his talents were recognised by the people around him; "just sing son, we'll pick the cotton". In the sixties he moved north and by the way of Wis¬consin he eventually ended up in Minneapolis, where he be¬came one of the leading figures in the blues scene of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Percy Strother had a tremendous "power" compared to e.g. Muddy Waters. His music is a mix-ture of blues, rhythm & blues and Memphis-soul. He was musically inspired by the likes of Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf and also Wilson Pickett. Percy Strother could be heard as guest on the CD "Ready to go" by RJ Mischo & Kid Morgan Blues Band. In 1992 Blue Loon released Percy's debut-CD "A good woman is hard to find". This CD features own material and has got very positive reactions and re¬views by a number of renowned blues magazines (Juke Blues, Living Blues, Block, Blues & Rhythm). The titelsong of the CD was rewarded with a Living Blues Award for the best Bluessong of 1992 and the entire album was mentioned as "runner-up" in the category Best Blues album. In the same year he was featured by both Block Magazine (NL) and Blues & Rhythm (UK). In October '93 he did his first European tour in Holland and Belgium during which he did a live show for the national Dutch radio. In June '94 he did his second tour and he played in Holland, Germany, Belgium and France.
