Founded in 2012, Penny Rae is the acoustic collaboration between Randi Ryan and Andrew Adams. From Patti Griffin and Journey to Ben Folds Five and Radiohead, Penny Rae draws on a wide range of musical influences making their sound difficult to define. In an effort to define the band’s sound, Andrew said “Think acoustic-based, vocal-driven Americana. With a little pop/country and minimal hipster. And coffee. Lots of coffee. I will not start wearing unnecessary scarves.” While the musical style may be difficult to define, the objective is not. According to Randi, “We just want to have fun playing music and sharing the songs we’ve written with anyone who wants to hear them.” Simple enough.
