Pelican Daughters were founded by Justin Brandis and Andy Rantzen in 1984. Using a variety of instruments, found objects & DIY tape loops, the pair released a succession of cassette-only releases into Sydney music stores, inspired by the so-called New Underground movement of the early 80's, comprising post-industrial bands such as Severed Heads, Noctural Emissions, Bourbonese Qualk, Nurse With Wound, SPK, The Legendary Pink Dots, Esplendor Geometrico and many others. Their ARIA award winning track, Sweetness and Light, began life as a Pelican Daughters track and features Miriam's distinctive vocal. After the demise of Silent Records, Pel
