Artist
Pax Nipponica is a collaboration between Bruno C and Yan T. Friends of many years who share eerily similar taste in music, but who have each a distinct past in how they made their music, these two finally converged in early 2005 and created a sound that is the perfect synthesis of digital and lo-fi recording. Bruno became aware of the possibilities of digital sound and sampling using computers in the early 90s. Free software and the possibilities offered by the affordable consumer grade hardware made it easy to get into composing music digitally. For several years he spent most of his free time writing music and making sounds, playing guitar with a few rock bands along the way. He released music digitally on a couple of compilations. Meanwhile, Yan was busy experimenting with lo-fi home-taping. Working with extremely limited means and trying to transcend the lack of proper equipment with as much creativity as possible, Yan released several ultra-limited edition cassettes at irregular intervals and under a variety of names, the most common of which being Racine. The combination of these two vastly different backgrounds, as well as a shared obsession in tweaking sounds through layers of effects and processing, define Pax Nipponica’s sound today.
