Paul was bought up in Buckinghamshire, UK and is now situated in Kent. His musical career is an unusual one and didn't really start off until he moved to London to study Musicology and English literature at the London College of Music & Media. There he wrote for and performed electric guitar & vocals in a rock band called Wasted Daze. After this ended he focused on solo material that eventually took him away from the popular music genre. At that point he was introduced to American composer Philip Glass and Belgium composer Wim Mertens, and used their style as templates for developing a new form of composition Up until then he considered himself as an untrained musician and worked mainly from memory. Later that year he moved away from London to Canterbury, kent and taught himself the principles of music theory, how to read and write music and took piano lessons under Lord Gawain Douglas, who for that time was his mentor and encouraged his piano compositions. One year later he applied for a music degree at Christ church university after making some connections after being in the Canterbury choral society. It was here that he was under the guidance of Paul Edlin who, they both admit, would push him to his emotional limits! It was at Christ church that paul terry had numerous performances of many pieces written for ensemble, orchestral or solo piano. One notable piece, and orchestral choral arrangement of the national anthem, was performed in the illustrious Canterbury cathedr
