Paul Carr

Born in Cornwall, England (August 13, 1961), Paul Carr began writing music at the age of 15. At 19 Paul's first work was accepted for publication by Cramer Music, entitled "Dance Pieces for Clarinet and Piano". Much of his early work focused on chamber music for wind instruments, an interest which continues today. In more recent years, however, Paul's writing activities have expanded into the orchestral and film scoring fields. In 1998 he was asked by director Clare Kilner to write the original score for her first feature film, "Janice Beard, 45 wpm," which screened at the Cannes Film Festival and was voted audience favorite at the Edinburgh International Festival. He has also written music for British television. "Crowded Streets" (Claudio CC4833-2) features six of Paul's original orchestral pieces performed by the Sussex Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mark Andrew-James. And Paul's "English Country Suite" for string orchestra has just been recorded on the Sanctuary Classics label for Vol. 5 of British String Miniatures with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Gavin Sutherland.
