about

Patrick Mòr MacCrimmon (1595 - 1670) was the most distinguished scion of the Skye piping family. The son of Donald Mor MacCrimmon (1570 - 1640), Patrick Mor succeeded his father as the hereditary piper to the MacLeods of Dunvegan. His many compositions include Give Me My Pipes, Lament for John Garve MacLeod of Raasey, Lament for Donald of Laggan, Lament for Mary MacLeod. The death of seven of his adult sons within a year brought MacCrimmon to write his Lament for the Children. MacCrimmon accompanied the MacLeod clan to England in 1651 and played before King Charles II, who is said to have enjoyed the performance and permitted MacCrimmon to kiss his hand, hence another composition I Got a Kiss of the King's Hand.
