Patrick Gauthier (born February 27th, 1953) is a French progressive rock keyboardist and composer, most well-known for his work with Heldon and Zeuhl founders Magma. First playing occasional informal gigs and studying philosophy at the university in Nanterre, he instead eventually felt drawn towards the world of synthesizers and began pursuing music full-time, joining fellow student Richard Pinhas to form Schizo in 1971, which later unfolded into the progressive electronic band Heldon, for which he has since played on the majority of their catalogue. September 1975 he was asked by Magma vocalist Klaus Blasquiz, whom he had known since his childhood, to join the band; his first stay with them lasted a year, featuring in studio solely on the album Üdü Ẁüdü, after which he, along with bassist Bernard Paganotti, moved on to found Weidorje, at the same time returning to Heldon. After the premature end of Weidorje due to a failed tour in 1979, he began to branch out, collaborating with artists such as Odeurs and Jacques Higelin, whom he followed on a tour through Africa, and repeatedly reappearing on Richard Pinhas's solo works. With the release of Bébé Godzilla in 1981, to much critical acclaim, he finally debuted his own solo career. The album features a large and impressive lineup consisting of many musicians popular within the scene at the time, among which were included a lot of Heldon, Weidorje and Magma members such as Benoît Widemann, Clément Bailly, Kirt Rust and Christ
