Look out: I've discovered the Mojo Mamas. Mojo Mamas features eight of Chicago's most talented blueswomen, courtesy of the Blue Chicago nightclub and record label. I particularly like the Mojo Mamas' take on the men in their lives, because it shows my wife that she's definitely not alone. We're celebrating 18 years of marriage this year, and she's told me that I've given her the blues more often than she'd like to remember. In some blues quarters, that's quite a compliment, like when Shirley Johnson sings "Paycheck in My Pocket" or when Grana Louise laments "Good Woman Gone Bad." This Blue Chicago disc also includes Zora Young, Gloria Shannon, Mary Lane, Pat Scott, Mary Lane, and Big Time Sarah, contemporary Chicago-area blueswomen who play venues like Blue Chicago, Blues Etc, and B.L.U.E.S. These women have shared the stage as solo artists with some of the best bluesmen in the world, including Son Seals, Willie Dixon, or Jimmy Dawkins, among a who's who of the blues, and I'm glad these Mojo Mamas are getting their due respect from Blue Chicago. Track List: Graná Louise/Good Woman Go Bad * Graná Louise/Somebody Done Told Me * Shirley Johnson/Paycheck In My Pocket * Shirley Johnson/Prisoner Of Love * Big Time Sarah/Gonna Have A Murder On Your Hands * Big Time Sarah/Love Fever * Zora Young/Daughter Of A Son Of A Gun * Gloria Shannon/One Eyed Man * Gloria Shannon/Baby, Won't You Please Come Home * Maggie Burrell/Pride And Joy * Mary Lane/I Wonder Why * Mary Lane/Coming Home
