The electronic & drum-driven skeleton of Paper Pistols has seen many incarnations, but in 2012, it finally found flesh and bone. This new, powerful breed is the result of a magical collaboration between two Sacramento natives, sound wizard Ira Skinner (Sacramento’s #1 renaissance man; previously of The Evening Episode) and songwriter Juliana Lydell (Previously of the The Dreaded Diamond; acclaimed by the press as “I don’t know who that is” and “Was she in Dog Party?”). Hailed as gut-wrenching and genre-bending, 2013’s Paper Pistols is akin to a journal or sketchbook put to music, a synesthetic soundtrack to panic attacks and fits of euphoria. Each of their songs articulates vivid experiences of love or loss, of tenderness or numbness, and subjective victories or moments of sheer desolation. "What organizer Jake Desrochers describes as a "harder-hitting Portishead," this group is a beautifully intense collaboration between drummer and electronic composer Ira Skinner (an annual participant in the Sacramento Electronic Music Festival) and vocalist-keyboardist Juliana Lydell, whose ethereally powerful voice could bend scrapyard metal.” – Aaron Davis, Sacramento Bee User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
