Paolo Fonghetti (1572 - after 1628) was an Italian composer. He was born in Verona in 1572, very young he entered as a pupil in the school of acolytes of the cathedral of Verona and here he carried out his priestly apprenticeship. In 1596, at the age of twenty-four, he was ordained a priest. During the novitiate he received a first order musical education under the guidance of the masters who took turns at the school, first of all I. Baccusi. From 1610 he became a singing teacher of the pupils of the school of acolytes and at the same time he devoted himself to private teaching. His name appears for the last time in 1629. He was the first Veronese composer to publish vocal and instrumental compositions with continuo. Several of his madrigals and sacred compositions appear in collections of the time.
