Paisley Babylon is the brainchild of Joe Wallace. The band is similar to Aphex Twin; a one-person studio maniac with a vast collection of sounds slowly being unleashed on the public. Paisley Babylon is a combination of psych/space and experimental sounds. Picture Brian Eno doing a studio session with Coil and Richard D. James in a weightless room. Joe Wallace started Paisley Babylon in San Antonio, Texas back in 1996 with the cassette-only release Synthetic Noises For Beginners. Joe Wallace first debuted Paisley Babylon on CD with an appearance on the Uncle Buzz Records compilation, Acid Ranch 2000. The PB track “Aquanaut” was recorded at the Uncle Buzz studio with help from members of Crevice and Hyperbubble. In 1998, Wallace released a full-length CD, The Alpha Wave Variations, on Uncle Buzz Records. Uncle Buzz is the home of Texas psych pioneers Crevice, the bubble-wave outfit Pink Filth, and many others. 1999 saw Wallace move the Paisley Babylon game to Iceland, where he worked and recorded for two years. He informally released several tracks including a live performance on the new defunct Internet radio station FAKE Radio. He moved back to Texas in 2001 and recorded more Paisley, performed as a member of Crevice and Pink Filth, and produced the Crevice documentary, The Camera Is Your Friend.
