Paddy Kingsland is a composer of electronic music. He is best known for his incidental music for science fiction series on BBC radio and television whilst working at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. He joined the BBC as a tape editor before moving on to become a studio manager for BBC Radio 1. In 1970, he joined the Radiophonic Workshop where he remained until 1981. His initial work was mostly signature tunes for BBC radio and TV programmes before going on to record incidental music for programmes including The Changes, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well as several serials of Doctor Who. His work on Doctor Who included incidental music for the following serials (in order of transmission): Meglos Full Circle State of Decay Logopolis Castrovalva The Visitation Mawdryn Undead Frontios He also contributed much to three versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. For the first two radio series, he contributed radiophonic sound effects, plus incidental music for the second radio series. His sound effects were also used on the Original Records LPs of the series and, along with Tim Souster, Paddy Kingsland provided further incidental music. For the 1981 TV series of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Paddy Kingsland was chosen to provide all the sound effects and music, with the exception of the theme music.
