Ponta Box is a Japanese musical group formed by Shuichi "Ponta" Murakami, a renowned drummer from Japan. The band is often categorized within the jazz genre, although Murakami himself does not strictly consider their music to be jazz. Ponta Box was initially formed with three members: Shuichi Murakami on drums, Masahiro Sayama on piano, and Masatoshi Mizuno on bass. They released their first album, titled "Ponta Box," in 1994. Over the years, the band has seen changes in its lineup, with the bass position eventually being taken over by Suzuki Bakabon. One distinctive feature of Ponta Box's albums is their cover art, which often features an illustration of a raccoon dog's face, inspired by Shigeru Sugiura's "Hachi-hachi Danuki." This illustration has become a trademark of the band's visual identity. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
