For nearly ten years violinist Oene van Geel and bassist Mark Haanstra played together in various groups. Throughout the years they developed a unique and catchy style that expressed their ideas about music. They worked together in the groovin’ chamber music band ‘Mosaic’. The group ‘Bhedam’ took them to India as an inspiration for their music. And then there is the alternative popmusic of ‘Voer’. After their last band Osmosis they now initiated the new group ‘Oxymore Quintet’, the first one they started together! This band started at the end of 2006. The line up is nothing less than a dream: saxophonist Guillaume Orti, pianist Harmen Fraanje and drummer Chander Sardjoe are pushing the limits of the music with their unique and personal styles. The group narrows the gap between composition and improvisation whether they play a Radiohead arrangement or one of their own compositions. The unifying factor is groove and a sincere joy of playing. Oxymore Quintet has found a sound where abstractions become clear and experiment feels good. Beginning 2008 their debut cd has been released at Trytone Records.
